Surprise guests

The past three Sundays we had low attendance due to a combination of competing celebrations and other dance events.  In addition, 5 of our regulars had good excuses, including helping parents, moving to Fairfield, attending professional workshops and health issues.  This just underscores the need to cast a wider net to attract more people to our Sunday Night Dance.  I advertised with posters on campus and in town that September was FREE for students but not one student came. I guess they were being one-pointed on their studies! Except on weekends when they party at Depot House.  I know, because I'm one of them!

We did have several surprise guests to brighten up our evenings.  Marguerite Gunn-Margi (hard 'g')-my significant other graduated with flying colors from physical therapy on her ankle and joined us September 17th and 24th. Ile joined us on September 10th and 24th.  Randy showed up for the lesson and dance on the 24th. He made a last second decision to come when he saw my red TONIGHT sticker on my poster at Everybody's.  That's the second testimonial on the effectiveness of this marketing technique I learned from my very first social ballroom class instructor, Michael Goodman in 1995. The first one was from Jason from Kahoka, MO. Yes to Success!  Thank you, Michael.

Here's a lesson: We had 2 ladies and 5 guys on the 10th.  I was happy that Simon decided to stay despite the odds.  Many casual goers or newcomers take a peak and if they see what looks like a private event, turn tail.  Do you think we just need more ladies?  Well, the next week we had 2 guys and 5 ladies! Don't jump to conclusions.

Guess what we had last Sunday?  A perfect balance of 3 guys and 3 ladies.

We have some great music.  And no matter what, we always have fun!
